Inria Chile participated in the Fête de la Science, which celebrates its 31st anniversary this year and has engaged over half a million people. This is the eleventh edition in Chile, and has already become an important event for scientific outreach.

The event is organized by the French Institute in Chile and aims to invite scientists, teachers, and academia to involve children and teenagers from schools affiliated with the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) in workshops, laboratories, and live shows.

In this context, Inria Chile, being an important scientific player in both France and our country, was invited to participate and presented two projects from the Institute: TsunamiLab and OcéanIA.

The first project is a platform for simulation and visualization of tsunamis based on geophysical models. It allows for interactive creation, recreation, and observation of tsunamis, aiding in decision-making, understanding, experimenting with possible scenarios, and observation. The second project is an initiative that seeks to use artificial intelligence to understand the oceans and climate change in order to combat it.

"TsunamiLab" was presented on October 3rd by José Galaz in a workshop to second-year students from Jean d'Alembert High School in Reñaca. On the other hand, Luis Martí gave a class to first-year students at Jean Mermoz High School in Curicó. The presentation was titled "OcéanIA: Artificial Intelligence to Understand the Oceans and Climate Change".

Nayat Sánchez-Pi, CEO of Inria Chile, stated that these types of activities are "very important for bringing science closer to children and teenagers. A significant part of the work carried out by Inria Chile is linked to our commitment to society, and using scientific outreach to introduce topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and digital technologies to young people allows us to contribute to instilling a responsible vision for the future in the new generations."
