The union of both institutions aims to generate ties so that design students can carry out their professional internship, with a focus on User Experience, at Inria Chile.

One of Inria Chile's missions is to generate and strengthen ties with industry and academia. With the latter sector in mind, the Centre has formed an alliance with the School of Design of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, which is already bearing its first fruits.

To begin with, last September 6, Maria Grazia Prato and Stefano Fenzo, from the User Experience Design (UX) area of Inria Chile, gave a class to students of the course "Usability and new media", taught by Professor Felipe Cortez of the UC School of Design. On the occasion, both told their experiences in UX to the attendees, in addition to describing some of the outstanding projects they developed in Inria Chile. Among them, for example, is the development of the interface for the Integrated Alarm System of the ALMA observatory.

In addition, we wanted to convey what processes we apply in our workflows and that, although theory has its method, when working with UX you have to know how to adapt to reality and different times.

Desafio Holidays de Inria

Once the activity was over, Maria Grazia and Stefano proposed a challenge to the course attendees: Design improvements for Inria's Holidays platform, through which the Center's members request their vacations.

We explained the context and functioning of Holidays, as well as the flow from the moment a person requests a vacation until it is approved. We then invited them to Inria Chile so that, within a week, they could present their proposals to us.

Thus, on September 13, about twenty students from the "Usability and New Media" course visited the Centre to present their work. On the occasion, five teams participated, and each one presented its interface and operation proposal.

To evaluate the work of the groups, a jury was formed by María Grazia Prato, Stefano Fenzo and Professor Felipe Cortez, as well as Cristián Paris, an engineer from the Business Development area of Inria Chile, and Maximiliano Olivares, an engineer from the Centre's Project Development area. The winning team met several evaluation criteria, such as the originality and executability of the idea, whether it was a platform that met usability and user experience requirements, and the dedication to the development of the proposal.
