Tsunami visualization and simulation web application
Chile has been affected by large tsunamis in the last decade, which have resulted in losses of both human and economic lives, in addition to the associated social impact. One of the most effective measures to mitigate these effects is the education of people. Tsunami Lab is an interactive tsunami simulator (web platform) that calculates both fictional and historical scenarios in real time, allowing the display of wave propagation anywhere in the world, using only an Internet browser.
As an educational platform, it allows the user to observe the characteristics of the tsunami in an interactive and flexible way - in the same way as in a laboratory - based on contextual information on the selected event. As a support tool for decision-making in the face of an alert, it allows the user to acquire a clearer understanding of the phenomenon, since it allows experimenting with possible scenarios and, in addition, observing the same scenario from different places on the planet. In turn, it allows comparing different scenarios on an attractive and interactive viewing platform.
