About the position

The Inria Chile Research Center is seeking highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Scientists to join our team at the Communications and Information Research and Innovation Center (CIRIC). The successful candidate will lead and contribute to cutting-edge research projects in computer science, applied mathematics, and related fields, with a focus on advancing scientific knowledge and driving innovation.

A Senior Research Scientist (SRS) is responsible for serving as a project principal and leading or playing a major role in multiple research projects, including planning and carrying out data collection, data analysis, and manuscript writing. An SRS also contributes to a range of other administrative and institutional activities, fosters  the institute's collaboration with universities and academic institutions, serves as a project manager, directs the work of mid level and junior staff who are working on the projects she/he leads, and acts as a supervisor for one or more midlevel and/or junior team members.

Responsibilities

 

1. Research Leadership

  • Lead research initiatives in the field of computer science, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, and related areas.

  • Develop and implement research strategies, methodologies, and experiments to address complex problems.

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and mentor junior researchers to promote a culture of excellence.

2. Project Management

  • Manage and oversee research projects, including budgeting, timeline management, and resource allocation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project goals are met.

  • Regularly report progress and findings to internal and external stakeholders.

3. Publication, Dissemination, and Outreach

  • Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.

  • Present research results at conferences, seminars, and workshops.

  • Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge through open-source projects and public engagement.

  • Participate in outreach and dissemination activities.

4. Innovation and Technology Transfer

  • Identify opportunities for technology transfer and commercialization of research outcomes.

  • Collaborate with industry partners to facilitate knowledge exchange and technology transfer.

5. Continuous Learning

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and apply emerging technologies to research projects.

  • Seek external funding opportunities to support research activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, engineering, statistics or related fields.

  • Proven track record of conducting high-impact research, demonstrated through publications and project outcomes.

  • Expertise in our focus areas (see for more details https://www.inria.cl/en/research-innovation):

    • machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, natural language processing,

    • human-computer interaction,

    • modeling and simulation,

    • internet of things,

    • high-performance/scientific computing, or similar areas.

  • Strong programming skills, preferably in languages such as Python, Julia, R or similar.

  • Experience with research project management and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and collaborative research environment.
