Inria delegation visited Chile

The delegation led by Inria's International Relations Director, Cécile Vigouroux, visited Chile to visit Inria Chile's facilities and meet with our strategic partners in the country.

On November 20 and 21, the delegation composed of the Director of International Relations of Inria, Cécile Vigouroux, the President of the board of Inria Chile, Claude Puech, and the officer for Americas at the Direction of International Relations of Inria, Claire Saint-Léger, arrived in Chile.

For a week, the delegation visited Inria Chile's facilities, learned in detail about the projects being carried out in the country and met with various actors of the Chilean ecosystem, deepening institutional relations with the aim of enhancing scientific collaboration between France and Chile.

On Monday, November 22, the delegation was received at the French Embassy in Chile, where a meeting was held with the Ambassador, Pascal Teixiera da Silva. Later in the day, the delegation held a series of meetings at the offices of Inria Chile.

The following day, together with the Inria Chile team, the delegation visited the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile, where they met with the Dean, Francisco Martínez Concha, the Academic and Research Director, Marcela Munizaga, the Director of External Relations, Luis Vargas, and Cecilia Bastarrica, Director of the Department of Computer Science.

During this meeting, the mobility agreement that allows students from the Faculty to carry out research internships at Inria, in France, was renewed for three years. In addition, possible new research initiatives on common topics between the two institutions, such as artificial intelligence, were discussed. The day concluded with a visit to the Mathematical Modeling Center and the facilities of Open Beauchef, the Faculty's innovation and entrepreneurship center.

On Wednesday 24, the delegation traveled to the city of Valparaíso to meet with authorities of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, in an instance headed by the Director of External Affairs of the University, Patricio Núñez. On this occasion, the delegation visited the recently inaugurated Bari II Technological Innovation Building, where they were able to exchange with Marcos Zúñiga, Director of Postgraduate Studies and Programs, with Matías Zañartu, Director of the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E) and researchers from this center, as well as researchers from the Scientific and Technological Center of Valparaíso (CCTVal).

On Thursday 25, a series of internal meetings were held in the morning, and in the afternoon, the delegation visited the San Joaquín campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. There, the delegation had the opportunity to discuss the promotion of collaborations between the two institutions and the development of new areas of joint work during a lunch led by the university's Vice Rector for Research, Pedro Bouchon, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Juan Carlos de la Llera. The delegation then met with the dean, authorities and researchers of the UC School of Engineering. In conclusion of the day, they visited the facilities of the UC Innovation Center, together with the Vice Rector, and the Director of the Center, Ramón Molina.
