Jean-Yves Le Drian, France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, arrived in Chile on July 25 and met with Sebastián Piñera, President of the Republic of Chile; the Foreign Affairs Minister Teodoro Ribera; and Minister of the Environment and President of COP 25, Carolina Schmidt. This visit reinforces the commitments agreed by both nations on October 8, 2018, when the leaders of Chile and France decided to adopt a bilateral roadmap that defines the scope of the relationship between the two countries for the next years. One of the relevant points of this bilateral roadmap is the intensification of economic exchanges between France and Chile, with special emphasis on innovation, artificial intelligence, information and communication technologies and sustainable development. In particular, they agreed on the importance of existing Franco-Chilean research centers, such as Inria Chile, which are engines of technological innovation.

Verbatim

There is a strong culture and history of collaboration between Inria and industry in France. We are exploring the creation of Joint Laboratories with French companies present in Chile and also with Chilean companies to accelerate their digital transformation processes. We are working to strengthen these connections and an example of this public-private collaboration is the one we are initiating with Naval Group and Inria Chile.

Inria Chile has various mechanisms for transferring knowledge, skills and technologies. Among them is the "Tech Training Center" training program aimed at companies seeking to innovate and integrate digital technologies such as deeptech. Through this program, companies can directly benefit from the knowledge of Inria's experts, as well as its open source technologies.

The other mechanism is the "Startup Tech Studio" which promotes the creation of new technology-based companies through different partnership and support mechanisms. This is a unique offer in the region, where there is a strong startup support ecosystem. Within the Startup Tech Studio, the Softlanding@InriaChile program stands out, which aims to attract and support French and European technology-based startups and SMEs seeking to enter the Chilean and Latin American market.

Verbatim

Our Tech Training Center was created to make high-level technology accessible to everyone. We conduct training courses based on Inria's open-source technologies. What we want is to accelerate the process and impact the economy by training people in deep tech, which will then directly impact job creation. Also the creation of startups is a recognized mechanism to transfer and impact society. With our "Startup Tech Studio" we want to support digital startups, not only from Chile but also from France, through our softlanding program for these companies that want to explore the Chilean and Latin American market.
