Inria Chile participated in a seminar on Artificial Intelligence organized by the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Team Europe

The meeting focused on the development and use of reliable, ethical, and robust artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on data governance, its use in public administration, its impact on the workplace, and the approaches and strategies to leverage its potential in development processes.
Inria Chile participated on March 21 and 22 in the Seminar on Artificial Intelligence organized by the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship and the Team Europe of the same country, a joint work framework between the European Union delegation in Argentina and the embassies of the 20 EU Member States represented in that country.
At the meeting, which took place in the city of Buenos Aires, 3 workshops were held, in which European and Latin American experts presented guides and generated dialogue with the rest of the relevant actors in the AI ecosystem, both from the public and private sectors, representatives of civil society and academia and Team Europe. All the activities of the seminar were implemented within the framework of the Global Gateway, the European Union's strategy to promote sustainable and reliable connections and infrastructures that benefit people and the planet.
During the opening, the Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, gave welcome words, along with the European Union Ambassador to Argentina, Amador Sánchez; the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry, Cecilia Todesca; the Secretary for Public Innovation, Micaela Sánchez, and the President of the National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development and Innovation (R+D+i Agency), Fernando Peirano.
The senior researcher and head of the Unit on Global Governance, Regulation, Innovation and the Digital Economy at the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels, Andrea Renda, opened the seminar by referring to the lessons learned from the seminar held in June 2022 in Buenos Aires and presenting the objectives of the scheduled activities.
The CEO of Inria Chile, Nayat Sánchez-Pi, participated as an expert in the first workshop, "Ethics and AI: a global vision of ethical dilemmas related to AI", in which key points were discussed regarding the use transparent, fair and agile analysis of this type of technology and its implications for human rights and security, following an anthropocentric approach. The workshop also included the participation of the Deputy Director General of Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Gabriela Ramos; the member of the cabinet of the Secretary of State for Digitization of Spain, Alberto Gago; the president of the Vía Libre Foundation, Beatriz Busaniche, and the executive director of the Sadosky Foundation, Fernando Schapachnik.
The second workshop focused on the impacts and opportunities that artificial intelligence generates for private sector actors and on the challenges that the new Artificial Intelligence Law of the European Union would introduce, and that must be addressed jointly with the public sector. In this instance, the participants were Andrea Renda; the leader of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning of the World Economic Forum, Lucía Velasco; the OECD Artificial Intelligence Policy Analyst, Luis Aranda; the director of the Observatory of Social Impacts of AI of the National University of Tres de Febrero, Sofía Scasserra, and the specialist in Integration and Trade of the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Inter-American Development Bank, Ricardo Rozemberg.
The latest workshop, called "Artificial Intelligence and the role of public administration", focused on the government's role as a user of non-discriminatory and privacy-conscious artificial intelligence tools, the right to access to public information, good governance, accountability, and transparency. Alberto Gago, the director of AI4Gov and vice president of Inspiring Futures, Gianluca Misuraca, the undersecretary of Science, Technology and Innovation Policies of Argentina, Cecilia Sleiman, the undersecretary of Information Technologies of Argentina, Agustina Brizio, the national director of Digital Country, Malena Ambas, and the director of Open Data, Daniela García, were part of this workshop.
