Platform for the capture and community assessment of information for better preparation and response to natural disasters.
Infocrisis was a project that was carried out in conjunction with the National Research Center for Integrated Management of Natural Disasters (CIGIDEN) that seeks solutions to the problem of making inappropriate and uninformed decisions when a disaster occurs. Its objective was to develop a dashboard that will centralize both official and social media information.
A platform was developed that displays the latest tweets related to four types of disasters: fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods. These tweets are identified based on the use of keywords, without considering geolocation, considering tweets from around the world with a subsequent classification by source. The types of source were organized by criteria such as the frequency of publication of messages as expected levels of trust, considering for this Twitter accounts of both the general community, digital volunteers, even NGO accounts, the media and official sources.
