A system for predicting anomalous climatic situations at the micro-predial level, which will allow farmers and agricultural technology providers to focus their efforts and reduce production losses due to frost.
Frost Forecast is a precision agriculture system that allows visualizing the climatic status of a crop, providing a detailed view of the situation of a farm. This project brings together technologies such as the Internet of Things, which, through a network of sensors and boards developed by Inria, with very low power consumption and very high precision, capture climatic information. This data is then processed with Artificial Intelligence and, through Machine Learning, will be able to predict anomalous events, such as frost, allowing agricultural companies to anticipate in decision-making and thus focus their efforts and reduce production losses for this reason.
Frost Forecast was recently installed in two fields in Chile and is already collecting data. This information will be integrated with other sources of climate data to feed the model's calculation and learning engine, which will provide early warnings to farmers.
Thomas Watteyne, a researcher from the AIO project-team at the Inria Paris Centre, is collaborating from France on this agrotechnology project, which uses methods to optimize production and make more efficient use of resources.
