Development of a quasi-real-time urban analysis platform.

Lack of reliable urban data is one of the main problems urban planners, transport and managers face, as well as experts, academics and civil society in general for the development of urban policies. Urban planners, policy makers and researchers must, often, deal with incomplete, obsolete or poorly aggregated information, with access restrictions that reduce the comparability between different sources, introducing delays and distortions in the development of urban plans and policies. This seriously hampers the resilience of cities, or the ability to adapt to population growth, pollution, disease, congestion, real estate speculation, and even the management of natural disasters in urban areas.

EIGENCITIES

This project aimed to develop socio-spatial clustering algorithms to reveal urban dynamics from unconventional quasi-real-time data in city planning, management and monitoring. It sought to map, monitor and visualize human dynamics in the main urban areas of Chile.

The Eigencities platform was developed by the Universidad Austral's EcoInformatics department in conjunction with Inria Chile and is focused on telephone communication data provided by Telefónica I + D.
