ALMA IAS

Changed on 24/08/2026

The ALMA Observatory is a complex system composed of a large number of components that must be managed and monitored. The nature of the components that make up an observatory is highly diverse, ranging from weather measurement devices, heating systems, and servers to systems associated with each of the antennas and their internal systems.

Inria Chile inicia nueva colaboración con el observatorio ALMA

ESO (European Southern Observatory), together with other entities, finds itself in need of developing a unique monitoring system capable of integrating data and alarms from all monitoring points of an observatory and presenting them to operators so they can act quickly. The integrated alarm system will be implemented for the ALMA Observatory; however, it will be reusable for other observatories worldwide.

This project is being developed in collaboration with ESO software engineers. The role of the Inria Chile team is to support key aspects of the system, such as integrating data from the various monitoring points and designing and developing the interfaces.
